Active Release Technique at Price Health
Active Release Technique (also called Active Release Therapy) is a hands on treatment system that can alleviate pain and dysfunction that is caused by problems with the muscle, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Active Release Technique (ART) is provided by specially trained and certified providers who can help diagnose and treat your problem.
The easiest description of ART is that it is massage with motion and stretching at the same time. It is considered a form of myofascial release just as massage focuses on soft tissue structures in the body, so too does active release. Massage will often use large big strokes along the soft tissues, while active release is much more specific using small but comfortable contact points to affect the soft tissue positively.
There are many different problems and conditions that can be treated successfully with ART. These range from low back pain and headaches to nerve entrapments. See below for a more detailed list to see if this treatment is right for you.
One of the most common and effective conditions it can treat are overuse injuries (also known as cumulative trauma disorders). These injuries are caused by small repetitive motions such as typing, working on an assembly line or even just sitting for prolonged periods of time. The tension in your shoulders from poor posture is a great example of this problem. This overuse causes your body to produce scar tissue or adhesions along the muscles. This does not allow the muscles to slide, or shorten and lengthen effectively. This can cause pain, loss of motion or impingement of nerves and other tissues resulting in pain or numbness and tingling.
